The Cool Lagoon
This piece pictures a gently moving elephant that joined us for 'tea' whilst I was leading a painting safari in Zambia. As we sat on the banks of a lagoon in South Luangwa National Park sketching, our wonderful guide Perry kept one eye on a gently moving, young bull elephant and the other on the coffee pot as he poured the morning drinks!
We watched in interest as he went about his morning routine, gently browsing on foliage before moving soundlessly towards the water in the lagoon below for some refreshment. Egrets, jackanas and ibis strutted, preened and fished in the water and the gentle 'hum, hum, hum' of hippos, one of the classic soundtracks of Africa, was intermittently played.
The wonderful thing about South Luangwa is how relaxed the wildlife is, the guides are always respectful and the low population of lodges in the area means the wildlife has space to be relaxed and behave naturally. So it was that we shared, breakfast, lunch and tea with ele's! What a huge privilege.
This print is one of my range of 'mini prints' - small, collectable pieces of art. Each print is limited to a run of 50 editions.
